David Phillips founded D A Phillips & Co Ltd in 1985. His aim was to provide a genuinely independent service to people who want to be in control of their retirement planning and not beholden to an insurance company or similar institution.

Today, we specialise in the provision of:

  • Self Invested Personal Pensions (SIPP)

    We pride ourselves on the level of service that we offer. Unlike many other administrators, we provide a personal, portfolio-based service. Each client has their own named team leader whose team will deal with the administration of their scheme.

    Pensions Simplification, which became law on the 6th April 2006 (A Day), is having a far reaching impact on both existing and new pension arrangements. It offers new opportunities for SSASs and SIPPs, such as connected party transactions and the removal of the requirement to purchase an annuity on the member’s 75th Birthday.

    However, it has also changed every other aspect of pension scheme rules. The changes are very complex and our expertise in the old and new regimes ensure that we can advise our clients to take full advantage of new opportunities, while protecting them from the pitfalls of the transition.     David Phillips

    David is highly respected within the industry as an expert in the field of SSAS and SIPP. He is an active participant in industry bodies and is involved in negotiations with the Inland Revenue.

    For six years David served on the Committee of the Association of Pensioneer Trustees, chairing both the Financial Services Act and Tax & Legislation Sub-Committees.

    In 2001 he was elected to the Committee of the SIPP Providers Group (SPG), where he is actively involved in negotiation with the Inland Revenue and other Government departments on changing legislation and practice.

    He has been involved with representing AMPS in the industry consultation leading up to the implementation of Pensions Simplification in the Finance Act 2004. He is now involved in the debate over the many anomalies and ambiguities in the Act.

    Actuarial Services

    In addition to our role as actuary to our SSASs, we offer the following actuarial services:

  • For the Trustees of Final Salary/Defined Benefit company pension schemes, we can provide a full Scheme Actuary service or a second opinion should the case arise.
  • For the Trustees of Money Purchase/Defined Contribution company pension schemes, we can provide projections and a review for current contribution scales.
  • For company directors we can provide the required pension accounting calculations and disclosure statements.
